GIF: A Historical Perspective on the Gay Marriage Debate

I’ve been trying to wrap my head around why people are so opposed to letting gay people have the same rights as non-gay people when it comes to state recognized marriages. Then, I came up with the idea to create this gif of the “keep the gays as second class citizens” crowd:

Is it just me, or are there some parallels here with a previous marriage debate that’s since been resolved without causing societal collapse.

I HATE the “think of the children” argument for opposing gay marriage (not that I’m fond of many of their arguments, but this one I really hate)
Fine lets think of the children. The children support same sex marriage, the children don’t understand what all the fuss is about. Now lets go one step further and think of the gay children… The ones who will be another generation of the GLBT community who will still be labeled as second class if we don’t start fixing the mess we’ve or carried on from our grandparents.
Of course if the signs held up there are the only issue with same sex marriage, the we will just have to wait for medical science to catch up so two women can have a child.

Done. Now lets not lie to the children and say that sperm is needed to make a baby.

The Howard University School of Law Civil Rights Clinic filed an amicus brief in the Prop 8 case. They assert that the arguments opposed to marriage equality are basically the same arguments used in opposition to interracial marriage.
