Notice any trends in that data? Quite a few Republicans, eh? That seems strange considering that the MN GOP’s platform reads (PDF):

Limit the Influence of Gambling in our State
We seek to eliminate all state-sponsored gambling and oppose any expansion of gambling in Minnesota. In regards to casinos already in place, current gambling laws should be changed so that Minnesota is allowed to tax profits and revenue of tribal casino gambling in the state.

I think that makes it clear that the MN GOP can be bought. They’re abandoning their own party’s platform for a few hundred campaign dollars each.

So what if the MN GOP flips on their position on gambling? Maybe exploiting gambling addicts and destroying families is justified in tough financial times?

What is the justification for supporting the racino at this time? Building a new stadium for corporate welfare queen, Zygi Wilf and his private business, the Minnesota Vikings.

  1. It’s no surprise that politicians can be bought, but I had no idea it could be so cheap!

  2. I find this push to add more gambling options a bit strange, but I don’t think there’s some malevolent intent to “exploit gambling addicts” and destroy families. Step back from the brink, Ed.

  3. @Rat, the intent isn’t to exploit gambling addicts and destroy families. That’s just collateral damage the MN GOP seems comfortable with in pursuit of a corporate welfare for Ziggy Wilf’s Vikings stadium.

  4. Since we’re talking gambling, let’s make a wager, just for fun. What percentage of those people listed above would you bet will vote for the Racino, if it gets to that point? 90? 95? 100!?

Ed, can you update this list with the results if and when that vote takes place?

  5. @Joe, I’ll bet that 100% of the legislators on that list will vote against their party platform and in favor of their campaign donor’s wishes.
