MNGOP’s Anti-Rybak #11: Circus Fees

Again, the MN GOP attempts to convict Rybak based on a proposal rather than an actual increase in fees or taxes.

* “Supporters of the ban say circus animals are often mistreated by their trainers to get them to perform. Circus sponsors argued that they don’t abuse their animals and that they are already federally regulated. … The alternative that will be reviewed calls for measures including on- and off-site inspections using city animal control staff and contracted veterinarians, higher permit fees and stiffer fines. It was supported by Mayor R.T. Rybak.” (Terry Collins, “Move to ban circus animals rejected,” Star Tribune, September 22, 2007)

Since they’re linking to the proposal, I won’t bother addressing whether it has merit or not.

  1. I’m not convinced that the average voter will be turned off to Rybak because of a proposed fee increase on travelling circus animals.
