Yell Group Switches to More Compact Print Directories

It looks like the UK’s Yell Group has figured out a way to go a little greener while potentially improving their yellow pages directory’s distribution. They’re decreasing the size a bit, which uses less paper, which is good for the environment.

Interestingly, it appears to give them a distribution advantage as well. Rather than leaving them on household and business doorsteps, they can literally shove them inside:

The overall number of pages in each edition will remain similar to the traditional A4 format, but its reduced height and width means it will be small enough to fit through standard size letter boxes at households and businesses.

If this means they don’t have to stick each book in a plastic bag, I suppose this is a step forward.

It’s great to see a print yellow pages company doing something other than promoting the recycling of books people didn’t ask for in the first place. While some American yellow pages companies don’t seem to understand this, reducing trumps recycling every time.

  1. It’s nice that I was able to hit a google (?) ad on the google rss fed to go directly to a yellow pages site.
