Yellow Book Strikes Portland

This just arrived from a friend in Portland under the subject line, “Look what the wife dragged in”:

Yellowbook Portland

Portland is one of the greenest cities in the country. They’re working on banning plastic bags in stores or charging between 5 – 20 cents per bag for their use.

This is not the kind of place where residents jump up and down with glee when they come home to find plastic wrapped printed spam on their doorsteps.

Idearc Media, the company that carpet bombs Portland in the spring with their Verizon Yellow Pages spam, put out a press release encouraging people to recycle their previous directories. They also mention that you can use their online directory at Superpages.com. However, they don’t include opt-out instructions for those who prefer online directories. That would help people move up the environmental food chain to REDUCE from recycle.

St Paul is also getting hit. Kenneth called me to tell me he had a visceral reaction earlier today when a phone book was delivered to his home in Highland Park. Luckily, he was able to catch the delivery guy and give it back to him. Reduce.
