Redevelopment of 38th & Chicago
I found myself perusing The 38th Street and Chicago Avenue Small Area / Corridor Framework Plan tonight, which breaks down how the city – based on input from the neighborhoods – plans to redevelop that area over time. The City Planning Commission is actually meeting tomorrow (Monday) to discuss adoption of the plan. More info here.
While I haven’t been following this, it looks like a solid plan. Build up the commercial nodes – including 38th & Chicago – with retail / housing mixed use buildings as tall as 5 stories, make intersections more pedestrian friendly, make the streets more bike friendly, and put in better lighting are among the highlights.

38th & Chicago, as it exists today, is one of my least favorite intersections in South Minneapolis. I’m looking forward to seeing that area turned around.
