Minneapolis Crime of the Week

If there is a worse intersection than 38th & Chicago in South Minneapolis, I’d like to know what is it:

38th/Chicago Av S: Officers respond to ShotSpotter activation; obtained witness descriptions; located vehicle with 5 occupants, 3 handguns; handgun fell out of each rear door when officers pulled back liners; spent shell casings found at intersection: 5 Arrested/ASSAULT/WEAPON
(3 juveniles)

Previous action at this corner of 38th is covered here. This corner also played a role in the Mark Loesch murder and the shooting of a 12 year old this year.

If you’re covered with blood, the smart thing to do is to confess:

1225 8th St S: Officers responded to Check the Welfare call, reporting possible stabbing victim in 9th floor hallway; suspect stated that he “wouldn’t be taken alive”; officers entered building lobby, observed man known to them from prior contacts, noticed blood on man’s clothing, asked if he had stabbed a woman, suspect replied “multiple times”; Officer took suspect into custody; female victim found dead of apparent stab wounds; other evidence located in suspect’s apt; Crime Lab, Medical Examiner called to scene: Arrested/MURDER

Dear Brooklyn Park, do you really want your guns ending up in the hands of people with extensive criminal histories? Show some responsibility!:

1700 blk 16th Av N: Officers responded to call of Person w/Gun at a loud party found suspect matching description; obtained permission from homeowner claiming no guns on premises to search house; officers recovered 3 rifles, loaded handgun reported stolen in Brooklyn Pk, loaded shotgun, stripped down rifle, handgun: 3 Arrested/
WEAPONS/DISRUPTIVE PARTY (1 juvenile; all with extensive criminal history)

The Seward Neighborhood’s most recent homicide sounds like something from Goodfellas’ Layla body discovery scene:

Dec 19, 2007 (MINNEAPOLIS) Shortly after 8:00 pm this evening the Minneapolis fire Department, along with officers from the Third Precinct, responded to a car fire in the rear of 2206 24th Ave S. During the course of putting out the fire a female was pulled from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. This death is being investigated as the cities 46th homicide.
