The Sparks Backlash Begins

ABC News is reporting that some states are attacking Sparks. For those of you who haven’t tried it, Sparks is like a big can of Red Bull & Vodka. A caffeinated energy drink with alcohol.
Apparently, they think advertising a product with alcohol in it as an energy drink is misleading since it gives the impression that the drink is healthy.
However, what they don’t seem to realize is that promoting any energy drink as healthy is probably the bigger issue. Or are we supposed to believe that Sparks would be healthy for us if it didn’t contain alcohol?

I don’t know much about the human body, but I know this….SPARKS SAVES LIVES!!!! Any accusations otherwise are simply unfounded.

It seems like a typical neo-prohibitionist gambit – attack a new market segment before it gains wider acceptance. They tried to do the same scare stories with wine coolers in the 80′s and the so-called ‘malternatives’ in the 90′s. Regardless of all that, the products are pretty gross. Certainly not as nice as a good beer or cocktail.
