The paparazzi were out in full-force to capture my return to 5K’s after a 13 year hiatus at last night’s Torchlight 5K in downtown Minneapolis.
The course ran from 13th & Hennepin toward the river with turns on 3rd Ave & Portland followed by a trip around the new Gold Medal Park. From there, it was down to the Stone Arch Bridge, across, with a finish on Main St near the Aster Cafe.
Kyle snapped this shot of me as I made the turn toward the Stone Arch Bridge:
Tim Kersey convinced me that this was a good idea during Julie MacGregor’s wedding reception last Saturday night. He was wrong. He also suggested that I could run an 18:30. He was wrong about that too. I was still on the Stone Arch Bridge at 18:30, and finished at 21:30.
Barring high heat, humidity, and a bacon blue cheeseburger for lunch, I think I could knock this down quite a bit without any additional running training. Although I hear training can help too.
