David Newberger joined Fresh Earth Farms as a farmer this spring, and has been throwing the occasional nugget out on his blog about his experiences with farming out near Afton State Park. I think this particularly interesting since Carly and I purchased a share of Fresh Earth Farms this spring, so David is growing the plants we’ll be eating later this summer. How cool is that?
Here is the latest from David about what he’s learning about weeds and wisdom from his CFO (Chief Farm Officer):
For me though some of the most interesting things have been the discussion I have been able to have with Chris James, the Chief Farm Officer. They range from what to do about tomato trellising, irrigation management, and weed management. On a farm that only uses organic techniques weed management is more like fighting a world war it seems. When one battle is over it doesn’t mean the war is over it only means you have won a small victory in an endless war.
We should have plenty of plants starting in only a few weeks, so if you can handle absolutely fresh, organic, locally grown plants, let us know so we can share the wealth. For the rest of you, what’s your deal?
