The great softball pitcher, Eddie Feigner, passed away on Feb 9th. For those of you not familiar with Feigner, check out his bio on Wikipedia or his official website.

“Beyond the staggering numbers, Mr. Feigner created his most lasting impressions with a series of remarkable pitching stunts. He could strike out players while blindfolded (8,698 times) or while pitching behind his back or between his legs. He had a curveball that would dip 18 inches. To give his opponents a chance, he often pitched from second base or, on occasion, from center field.”

I had a chance to see Eddie Feigner at Municipal Stadium in St. Paul with my dad and brother when I was around 12. He really did strike out batters while pitching from 2nd base. And by pitching between his legs. And blindfolded.

Feigner brought more than incredible pitching talent on his road show. His humor and showmanship are what really made his appearances an event.
