[ # ] Bribing Their Way to Scientific Uncertainty

It’s hard to decide who to hate more: The people working for the Bush administration (um, I mean the American Enterprise Institute) who sent the bribery offers, or the “scientists” and “economists” who take the bait:

Government leaders and scientists around the world hailed the report as accurate, long over due, and evidence that greenhouse emissions must be brought under control. Of course, here in America, we have to be different:

The Guardian — Scientists and economists have been offered $10,000 each by a lobby group funded by one of the world’s largest oil companies to undermine a major climate change report due to be published today. Letters sent by the American Enterprise Institute (AEI), an ExxonMobil-funded think-tank with close links to the Bush administration, offered the payments for articles that emphasise the shortcomings of a report from the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

I’m leaning toward hating the scientists who destroy the credibility of legitimate science by polluting the debate with oil backed BS.

    - Profit is the most ever earned by a U.S. company in a single year”

    Yup, let’s put the blame where it belongs–the corporate greed of big oil companies like Exxon Mobil–who just reported record profits, which broke their own record for profits, which happens also to be the USA record for profits EVER, which they had set the year before and which broke the year before….

    Just in the interest of refining the original posting a bit, it is not the Bush Administration bribing AEI, rather it is eXXXon Mobil. As XXX is funding (read ‘controlling’) the Bush Administration in addition to AEI, which by the way has been uncovered as being a bought-and-paid-for scientific group in the past. But of course not in the mainstream media, only in the media of environmentalists and activists reaching only a small percentage of average americans with truly inquiring minds to achieve this awareness.

    AEI is run like a PAC for the energy industry. Knowledge-laundering is their game, crisply funded under the covers by XXX big oil to put a little distance and pretty face onto their sham science. AEI is nothing more than scientific whores who sold out their ‘body of science’ for the big money.

    XXX = $$$ = AEI…why? It is all merely a stalling action, to delay and confuse the chronically uninformed and simpleminded into believing their inaction and wasteful actions are not causing anyone any harm…just like tobacco a generation and DDT two generations ago.

    Because, before you can address a problem, you have to prove it causes harm, right? Same kind of logic that keeps people from stopping smoking until they cough up a lung, getting in shape before their knees are wrecked, going to the doctor before the tumor turns into a basketball, etc.

    It is our constitutional right to waste energy, right? Life, liberty, pursuit of happiness, right? Why should I be inconvenienced when I can afford more energy than I need. It is all about me, my life, my rights…right?

    Maybe this story will correct the myth in the corporate media that AEI is a “think tank.” AEI tries to pretend that they are a bunch of scholars when they are pr people and lobbyists for the corporate interests that finance them.
